Jeremy Noah Friedberg, Ph.D.
Born December 14, 1974Jeremy was a city boy raised on Kraft dinner, turned agriculturalist. Born in Toronto in 1974 he had little concept of agriculture and on arrival as a grad student in Plant Agriculture was remembered as asking… “what’s a forage?” Ironically he now focuses his research on alfalfa genetics.
Jeremy received an honours B.Sc. in molecular genetics from the University of Western Ontario. He is presently in his third year of a Ph.D. program with Dr. Steve Bowley, and is studying the activity and utility of the heat shock response in alfalfa. Specifically, he works with the heat shock transcription factor, attempting to modulate its expression as well as observing its activity under low temperature stress. In essence, his hope is to engineer stress tolerant alfalfa plants. Needless to say the fun never stops! Jeremy has been fortunate to receive a number of scholarships from the department and currently has received an NSERC scholarship to help fund his research. Outside of his life on the fourth floor of the crop science building, Jeremy likes food, all kinds of food. When he’s not eating Jeremy is very active in the Graduate Students Association and is currently the V.P. External. For the future, Jeremy plans on traveling, Africa possibly, followed by some sort of a career in genetics.Contact Informaiton:
